Sexual violence has no place in our society. Yet, it sadly is a commonplace occurrence, affecting roughly 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men. The effects of sexual violence can be profound and life-altering. Many survivors report feelings of detachment, isolation, depression, anxiety, anger, and grief and suffer the distressing symptoms of PTSD. Sometimes the effects are immediate, sometimes they don’t surface until years later. Regardless of where you are on your healing journey, know that there is compassionate, non-judgmental help available.
Therapy for Survivors of Sexual Assault.
How Therapy Can Help You Heal.
When our bodies and brains go through a traumatic experience, many different parts of our nervous system are activated. Oftentimes this completely overwhelms the system, so that only our most basic flight, flight, or freeze instincts take over. An event of this magnitude, or series of events, demands processing, which is often painful. The result of this is that for some people, they may wish to repress their emotions, or they are overwhelmed by them in ways that are making day-to-day life challenging. Therapy provides a safe healing space where you can work with a trusted professional to process the events, understand how they impact you, learn how to manage the effects, and to achieve your goals.
Learn More About Me.
The therapeutic relationship is an important part of my work. I want people to feel comfortable to be themselves and not edit their stories or experiences. I acknowledge how challenging it is to be vulnerable and will trust that you know what’s right for you to share and when.
I am grateful that you are here today and invite you to learn more about me and my approach. I am honored and humbled to hear people’s stories of resilience, survival and struggle and seek to engage in collaborative therapeutic conversations that move people from a place of suffering/struggle to a more expansive notion of who they are, their skills, values and powerful ways of being in the world. If you think we may be a good fit, please reach out for a complimentary 15-minute call.
