Receive Reduced-Fee Therapy While Contributing to Psychotherapy Research
I am currently participating as a therapist in an international research study on Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).
AEDP is a compassionate, evidence-informed approach that helps people safely process painful experiences, strengthen emotional resilience, and create lasting change in their lives and relationships. Therapy may focus on concerns such as anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, life transitions, work stress, or other emotional challenges that are important to you.
As part of this research project, participants receive 16 sessions of AEDP therapy at a significantly reduced fee of $100 per session. If cost is a barrier, a lower fee may be available.
What Participation Involves:
Attend up to 16 therapy sessions.
Complete a series of secure online questionnaires before therapy begins, before Session 3, and a brief questionnaire after each session.
Participate in two follow-up interviews (approximately 30 minutes each) with another member of the research team, one at 6 months and another at 12 months after therapy has ended.
Have therapy sessions video-recorded. These recordings are used only for research, therapist training, and quality assurance, helping researchers better understand what contributes to meaningful therapeutic change. Confidentiality is maintained throughout the research process.
Who is Eligible:
You may be a good fit if you:
Are 18 years of age or older.
Are experiencing emotional distress and are seeking psychotherapy.
Are not currently using alcohol, cannabis, or other substances on a daily or very frequent basis to manage mood.
Have not recently started, stopped, or made significant changes to psychiatric medication (or are willing to discuss your situation further).
Agree not to begin therapy with another therapist during the 12 months following completion of the research treatment.
About the Research:
This study is sponsored by the AEDP Institute and is led by Shigeru Iwakabe, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of Graduate Psychology at Ochanomizu University in Tokyo, Japan.
The purpose of the study is to better understand how AEDP creates meaningful and lasting change so that psychotherapy can continue to become more effective for future clients.
